Even though many women feel like they have spent a long time preparing for pregnancy, childbirth or adoption, they often find themselves losing balance once the process has started. This makes sense since so many aspects of your life change: your body, relationships, and time/schedule. You can never predict everything - a lot is unexpected.
Women are often faced with several identity roles, and a new baby in the mix leaves women feeling stressed and under pressure. They are told what they are supposed to feel, or think, or do.
We focus oninfertility, prenatal and postpartum wellness, transitions, treatment and support with Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders, life-work-home balance, healthy bonding and attachment, becoming a "mindful" parent, transitioning to new roles/identities, and pregnancy and neonatal loss. Partners are often invited to join sessions to help guide them on how to best nurture and support the Mama while learning to better take care of themselves.
Our therapists specialize in working with Mamas and have received Professional Maternal Mental Health Certification Training through Postpartum Support International (PSI). Elizabeth is Board President for the Georgia Chapter of PSI (PSI GA), has presented nationally on the topic, and educates other professionals about Perinatal Mood and Anxiety disorders. Melissa is also an active member of PSI GA, has participated in several advanced trainings on the subject, and leads new mom support groups throughout Atlanta .
